Post My stories then and now our future.

Now I know this is a long read, but if you really want to support this legion, I think this is a great chance to get some insight of where we came from and where we want to go.

I was staring at this empty topic for a few minutes before typing. You know from Beta #2 to Beta #5, I never did have much time to myself. Meaning I did a lot of legion duty and Tributary contribute in the beginning too (he found some of the best form beta #2) thought our first few betas. I can’t fully tell you why we decided to make a legion. Not in this topic, ask me on ventrilo sometime. My 2nd beta was about getting NA experience in Aion, but it was all for building a legion then.

Was going to be named "Syndicate" and Tributary had something even more generic. He had even thought of a name that if abbreviated was a homosexual term. So I thought about this being another rising for me. I thought of "Rising Dragoon" and it was the spin from the guild that I helped build with the couple that I looked on as brother and sister. That was "Rising Dawn". So I think it worked. We couldn't even think of a good formation for 15 minutes till we thought of RDragoon.

    We invited all these great people and even many rejected us then because they are looking for something hardcore, are the best, end game, etc. In my head, sometimes I wondered if people listened to themselves. Like achieving something in a new game is easy, better yet for a legion to make clams in the beta stages of a game. That’s why I’m nothing compared to others that are bigger than us. It’s up to the players to decide how they want to work and I only can add more clay to the sculpture for us to mold it. Back to the story;

From beta #2 I have met some of the best people there, we got that money to start the legion quick. We had the black capes. We all thought we were so cool. There still was a problem, growth and rejection. Nothing I could do then, but let people bounce. I didn't have a legion website then. I wanted to see who was interested. I got only a few people interested and a lot of people that were busy with their own things till release and then people who just rejected us.

It was hard enough work for us to email people from beta, after beta #2. Very little people responded to them. Looking back my first wave of emails was June 22, all hand-typed each. What we had for RDragoon then was nice.

Legion website I put up on June 25th. I was more than positive that we would be a good legion. I had no experience in Vbulletin. I was good at other forums and CMS. I wanted to do Invisionboard, but thought that was Vbulletin for some reason, but I’m satisfied. Nice setup and everything. I resent emails about the website. I can’t remember too much but I think 1/3 signed up then at that point. Compared to the looks of the website now, starting up it was ugly.

Closed Beta #3 was the highlight of meeting some of the greatest again. There has always been a new member(s) highlight for me in each beta. I was still doing my same ways. Searching for new members, building a stronger website, putting info on our legion on this forum and that forum, helping whomever I can in beta and the job is never done. You never know who will be there for you still in retail. People now don’t have time to fill out legion applications in a beta.

This beta is the start where I had to put being a leader into plan. I had to deal with more than the legion knows around that time. Right then my goal was to take care of the bull to have the others enjoy themselves. We can fast-forward from now. At the end of Closed Beta #3, I think that’s when people from around the net were finding us and checking us out. I also on my downtime I watched the goggle and yahoo bots searching the forums.

Last month we had 682 unique visits with 1922 visits, 76940 pages, 301925 hits and 1.31 Gigs of bandwidth usage(stats 4 times better than July). It’s only August 4th and we are about toped last month’s ratings.
You will see us in the top ten if you search (Rising Dragoon, Rdragoon, aion, and legion) in any sort of order, but “Rdragoon Legion” we are #1. The MSN spiderbot isn’t doing its job though, but I will get on it.

Closed Beta #4, I have been trying to recruit some shady people around that time. I had shady ones asking to join too. They lie to us, bail out on us in parties, stall us in parties, etc. We know who they are and I’m even constantly picked when I throw my mojo down somebody’s throat…and the ones that got away. I find it funny. We accomplished a good bit then.

Closed Beta #5, we did get the legion to level 3, but when I did it. I felt something very wrong and it’s not something I can share, but just something I will want to improve on. I didn’t do much recruiting at all and it’s not the best I’ve done. I did get many of the people from the website in the legion and I’m happy about that. In-game recruiting I lacked in this time. Overall the activity in the legion was great.

At this point though all my trials and tribulations (that will always continue) they have done a lot of it alone. I know my right hand man Tributary has been busy so you know it’s normal. I’m Michael Jackson and he is Tito Jackson. I have my Centurions (aka generals) on the game and all of them have it for a reason. I even wanted to give it to certain people and most just unsure with the responsibility. I understand and it’s not a problem. I get more suggestions that really help me out when I’m tackling situations alone.

The website is more than enough proof. That website is not even by me, that’s all of us. Ideas for that modification, website design, even that logo, we all had some part in it. We are all doing a good job too, but at this point of time I need more than what I’m getting now. I need at least a handful to get ready for real responsibility (preferably people that I’ve known for two or more betas).

I’m not sure how I’m doing to do this yet but I got a few ideas and things. I will make another topic and I want to know who’s really ready for a part in a position. Everybody will have the same title, but different responsibilities and management. It can be from recruiting, to legion warehouse management, giving me information on issues from within, group organization, etc.

I don’t expect anybody to tackle something that would make them look bad or cause too much drama; I’d rather make myself look bad or handle things like that. I’ll be the one to talk to people and handle things like that.
So, this was a pretty long read, but actuality it’s a quick story of where I came from and also how I met each and every one of you.

It makes me smile to see many of you around, having fun and learning more about others. So I feel blessed, to have something created now that I was just unsure about at first. I’ve done a lot for many of you and many of you have done a lot for me. I don’t ask for much, but I want to ask once, I want to see our legion ready for retail.

This isn't easy for me. Ive never been anything above your average member in guilds/legions before. So its frustrating for me to be struggling because i like to be the best at what i do no matter what it is. I can remember the chinese beta before i even knew there was an english patch, playing the game in korean but my computer didn't even support the language, all i saw was squares. I looked for any english names, eventually me and Ryo met and played for a good amount of time together, exploring the abyss for the first time, rifting ect ect.

The first beta i got to must have been level 4 in the end i spent my whole time recruiting in that first village. in CB2 and on i continued to do the same thing, never really leveled up enough. I never had to deal with pms like that before, because my advertising ploy was that me and Ryo had chinese experience, so i was getting all sorts of pms with questions, Kytana..XDD. I also remeber having a piece of paper with like 25 email addresses or so and i remeber about 10 of them not going through at all.

So far i am a bit dissapointed in myself as a leader, i havnt been able to join any of you ingame for adventures ect ect...although i wish i had. Ive heard of people not even knowing my ingame name. IMO thats unacceptable for a leader so i need to step it up obviously. I also had a hard time being on vent and playing Aion at the same time due to my mic being built into my laptop, i have a headset now so im definatly going to be on it ingame now.

Im definatly always thinking of ways to improve the guild and need to take some of those responsibilities that Ryo needs help with. Ive let Ryo down a bit in spliting them imo, so expect that change in the upcoming stages of the legion. This legion does mean alot to me in the end.

Meh. I am not one for huge blocks of text, but so far I have enjoyed how this guild has come together. To the future and sticking together in Retail!

Thanks for this thread... being pretty new It's nice to be able to go back and read where the legion came from and hear from those responsible for it's creation. I think the website here is pretty good, and getting better.

I have a question about recruiting. Do you prefer to have met the character in game before asking someone to join, or is it okay for just anyone in the legion to invite people? I'm not sure how strict you are on that sort of thing. I can assume from what I've read so far, you don't just want a big legion boasting superior numbers, but rather a close group of active players that have a good time doing what they do best. So I thought maybe you would restrict random people from joining so as not to ruin the group with unkown people. Er.... so in other words what are you thoughts specifically on recruitment?

from my experience, when you get to be one of those big legions with huge numbers, more and more people join less for the guild, and more for our legion wharehouse, just my experiences and want a tight knit group not just members in it for themselves. were all here for each other.

I got all my members by helping them out and asking them to join. Either one or the other or both. I don't spam invites, because I think it's rude, and I have yet to post up a shop for advertising or do shouts. A guild can be superior with good members. With active members of both hardcore and casual alike, you can build the best legion in the game.

My goal for the legion is not to be the best, but for everyone to be their best individually, when that is done whatever we do we will do good at, because we will be the best and comfortable with ourselves our legion, and our toons.

There is no restrictions on recruiting as for beta but when retail hits there will be an application and such, but we will always recruit and there will be a legion made just for alts, because we want RDragoon to be Main legion and we will have another in the future just for alts. Does that answer your question? :P I'm eating and responding at the same time.

    EDIT

I agree with trib too. So far we are doing a excellent job of what I wanted the legion to be, helping each other out so we always expect people to give and if nobody needs then it's up to you if you want to put whatever in the legion bank or sell it.
