ZIkel and the RP/PvP Community. How will we be affected?

I'm creating this thread in hope to clear the air about the RP (Role-Playing) community (and PvP community) who has selected Zikel as one of the two "unofficial" RP servers.

It has been semi-confirmed that both the RP Community and a large group of Warhammer's PvP community are moving to Zikel. Now, many are wondering what the impact will be on our playing style.

I have several point to make that defend our freedom to play how we want.

1) NCSoft has refused to make an official RP server. This is big, because this means there will be no enforcement on names. Official RP servers (on games that do this) will make sure the player picks a name that is in line with the game, so there would not be any xxdragonballzxx character names (for example).
This leads to another point:

• No tag on server- Due to this, the RP community KNOWS that this is not an official RP server, so *most*, and I mean most, will not be overzealous and attempt to enforce this on the other players. There will always be some, but it will be the equivalent of chat spammers in measures of annoyance.

2) In essence, what we will be dealing with is a large group of people who will NOT be spamming in chat, NOT using profanity, NOT using slang word, etc. To me, this is a GOOD thing. I am happy that they are moving here. If anyone attempts to impose on my play style, I would tell them "STFU NOOB, I PWN YOU, I DON'T ROLE-PLAY!!!!" Then ignore, hehe. This is about all you can do, but I'm positive this won't happen often.

3) Concerning the PvP community: It won't be nearly as noticable as it may sound. On every server there will be lots of people dedicated to PvP. In fact, many of us on this legion are PvPer's. So instead of 50% of 10 legions having a PvP focus, we'll have 100% of 5 legions focused on it. It still may sound bad, but it isn't. Also, there are non-PvP zones that you can stay in if you absolutely HATE PvP (heh, like my wife).

All in all, this server will have a different "feel" too it. I believe it will be a more mature feel, one that we will grow to love and appreciate.

I completely agree. Really the only childish behavior you see on RP servers are the idiots that make level 1 characters to bash RPer's. Which Aion has done an outstanding job of getting rid of by forcing you to level up to 5 before being able to talk in general channels. I for one couldn't be happier that part of the RP community will be on our server. Hell I doubt anything could top off NWN but maybe I'll catch myself RPing every so often.

I have played on RP servers (among others) on WOW and several other games... I have never once been criticized for "not acting in character" - in fact, even on RP servers I have seen more of the reverse - "ahh shaddup about the lore and just kill them.. blah blah blah..."

Not that I am an RPer per se, I don't mind it and find it humorous/entertaining and even occasionally participate in it, but I am not at all dedicated to it. I play to play, compete, win, and have fun with guildies et al.

RP servers do tend to have less of the whining, spamming, and leet annoying crowd, but they are not immune to it and I think that it is overrated the difference between regular and RP servers (at least in my experience). Now we are talking about a server that is NOT RP but rather has attracted potentially a RP community - I think that is fine and actually probably a good thing for us honestly. In no way is anyone forced to RP... I don't think Ryo or officers have ever said even one word about RP... we aren't a RP guild (but I also assume that if people WANT to RP, there is nothing against that either)...

So anyway, my sense is that this is really largely a non-issue (Zikel/RP) and may even be a small blessing as it filters out some of the annoying things in general chat and some of the harrassing/annoying stuff that can go on in a MMORPG (particularly one with PVP).

And on the PVP front, it isn't clear to me that RP people will NOT be PVPing... afterall, this IS a PvPvE game... and there were RPers in Warhammer (which was mainly a pvp/rvr game)... they aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

Anyway, I am very optimistic about our new home on Zikel and can't wait to crack some heads with you guys,

You're assumption is correct. MANY RP's are also avid PvPer's. In fact, if you look into the lore aspect of the game, dedicated RPer's should feel OBLIGATED to participate in the war against the Balaur and the Asmodians. Also, the largest RP server on War was a RP/PvP server.

This is correct. Although we are not a RP legion, we will support ANYONE who wishes to RP as long as you are not imposing upon others to do so.

Its stuff like this that makes me glad I am here.. Seeing that both sides are addressed and welcomed. I have many characters on an RP servers in both Wow War LoTRs ETC .. So long as we are open to those that do and don't $hit all over those that don't.. The legion will do nothing but grow. I don't PvP myself. Just never got into it.. but Welcome those who do and more then willing to do so in this game.
